Parasailing is one of the easiest ways to see St. Croix from above. You sit in a harness under a big parachute and rise gently off the back of a boat until Christiansted, the harbor and the north shore spread out below you. No experience is needed, and you don’t even have to get wet. Parasailing from Christiansted is run by our partners Parasail Virgin Islands, and your confirmation shows where to meet the boat. Here’s everything you need to know before you book.
How much does parasailing cost in St. Croix?
| Option | Price (online) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Parasailor | $95 per person | Ages 6 and up |
| Guaranteed observer | $70 per person | Rides along on the boat, doesn’t fly |
| Private parasail trip | $1,000 for 1 hour | The boat to yourselves, ages 6+ |
Booking online saves $5. Crew gratuity isn’t included. Senior, military and local discounts are available: call (340) 773-2628. Booking is on Parasail Virgin Islands’ secure FareHarbor checkout, and the booking calendar shows the departure times for your date.
How long is the flight?
Each flight is 8–10 minutes in the air. The whole trip takes about 1 to 1.5 hours on the water, because everyone on board takes a turn. Flyers go up two or three at a time, so the rest of the trip is a boat ride with great views while you watch your friends and family fly.
Who can go parasailing? Age and weight rules
- Age: flyers must be 6 or older.
- Waivers: everyone signs a waiver, and a parent or guardian must sign for anyone under 18.
- Weight: each flight needs a combined weight of at least 160 lbs and up to about 450 lbs. The limits change with the wind and are always the captain’s call.
- Flying solo: you need to meet the 160 lb minimum on your own. If you’re not sure, call us before you book and we’ll help.
Not everyone in your group wants to fly? Book them as guaranteed observers so they can ride along and take the photos.
Will I get wet?
Not unless you want to. Take-offs and landings are slow and gentle, right on the back of the boat. You lift off from the deck and land back on it, so it feels as if you’re truly sailing on air.
What happens on a parasail trip
- Arrive 15–20 minutes early. With several boats departing from both Christiansted and Green Cay Marina, please check your confirmation for your departure point, or call us at (340) 773-2628 with any questions. The boat leaves at the scheduled time.
- Waivers and safety briefing. Sign your waivers, then the captain and crew walk you through the flight.
- Up you go. The crew inflates the parachute and you lift off from the back of the boat for your 8–10 minute flight.
- Everyone takes a turn. Flyers go up two or three at a time, depending on combined weight.
- Back to the dock once everyone has flown.
What will I see?
From the air you get a bird’s-eye view of Christiansted, its harbor and the north shore of St. Croix. Keep your eyes on the water too: from up there you might spot sea turtles and dolphins below.
What to bring and what’s included
Included: captain and crew, a safety briefing, a stereo and an ice chest.
Bring:
- Your bathing suit and a towel
- Sunglasses (you’ll want them up there)
- Your phone in a waterproof case, or a GoPro
- Cash for your crew’s gratuity
GoPro, video and photo packages are available to buy in advance or on board, so you can keep both hands free and still go home with the pictures.
Is parasailing safe?
Parasail Virgin Islands are members of PAPO, the Professional Association of Parasail Operators, and they have a 100% safety record. Every trip starts with a safety briefing, the captain decides how many fly at once based on weight and wind, and flights don’t go ahead if the weather isn’t right. If a trip is cancelled for weather, you get a full refund.
When can I go parasailing in St. Croix?
Parasailing is seasonal. It’s closed in September and October, so if you’re visiting then, try a sunset cruise or a Buck Island snorkel trip instead. The rest of the year, pick a date on the booking calendar to see that day’s times. It’s a short trip, so it fits easily into a day with something else, like our morning Half Day Snorkel, or a cruise ship day in port.
Tips for a great parasail trip
- Book online to save $5 per person, and so you can see the departure times for your date.
- Think about who flies together. Flyers go up two or three at a time, and each flight needs a combined weight of at least 160 lbs. Lighter flyers, like kids, go up with someone else. The captain makes the final call on the day.
- Book observers as observers. The $70 guaranteed observer ticket makes sure non-flyers have a seat on the boat.
- Plan around the season. If your trip falls in September or October, parasailing is closed, so plan another adventure.
- Bring a tip in cash. Gratuity isn’t included.
- Want the boat to yourselves? The private parasail trip is $1,000 for 1 hour, ages 6+, which can make sense for a bigger group or a celebration.
Cancellation policy
- Free cancellation 24 hours or more ahead
- $40 per person to rebook within 24 hours
- No-shows are charged full price
- Weather cancellations are fully refunded
